Pi Day is a sham. So-called Pi Approximation Day (July 22, or 22/7 in European date style) is closer to the true value of π.
22/7 = 3.142857142...
abs( 22/7 - π ) = 0.001264489...
abs( 3.14 - π ) = 0.001592653...
What a shame.

The thing is, PI Day is potentially more accurate. in 2015, 3/14/15 9:26 will occur, which is 100,000 times more accurate than either of the options you presented. If you omit the year, 1:59 of any year is closer too!
It’s not called Pi Minute.
ok, let’s just include the year then. 2015′s Pi Approximation day will still be 100 times more accurate.
If you want July 22 to be Pi Day, you will have to move to Europe. We just do not represent it that way in this country.
Or you could move to Canada where (I think) they use the European date syntax.
And the fact that it is also Einstein’s birthday is kinda hott.
